Murray 'Cleans' Up in Wash 'n' Dash Challenge Trophy
On yet another night of top class racing action at Nuttscorner Oval, Irish Champion Shane Murray showed his speed when he took a heat and final double on his way to lifting the Wash ‘n’ Dash Challenge Trophy for the 2.0 Hot Rods on June 5th. With the reverse grid system in operation, Adam Hylands showed well to win the first heat from Glenn McDowell and the impressive Denver McLean, before Murray was followed home in the second encounter by Garry Campbell and European Champion Andy Best. Murray netted pole for the final, and duly led them away with McLean keeping him honest all the way. Try as he may, Denver couldn’t quite get on terms with the leader and Murray came home for the win after a very polished performance indeed. McLean was second, and these two will surely be at the head of our World Championship hopes next month at Ipswich. Hylands will no doubt be delighted at his excellent third spot, ahead of Glenn McDowell.

Last years ProStocks King of Nuttscorner Ryan Stewart was in scintillating form as he successfully defended his trophy. He made no mistake in the first heat, winning at a canter, before returning to third in the second heat behind winner Stefan MCClelland and George Esler. This gained him pole spot for the final, and he duly romped home to victory to round off a fine evening before he sets off next weekend to tackle the Open Scottish Championship at Cowdenbeath. McClelland was second ahead of Irish Champion Dave Morrison in third.

It was pleasing to see the Lightning Rods back up in numbers, and they produced what was probably the best racing of the night, with side by side action aplenty throughout all three races. Tim Hazlett took the flag in both heats from the blue grade, after working his way past stubborn yellow graders Alan Taylor and James Logan in both. This instantly gained Tim an upgrade to red top, and from there he worked his way into the lead in the final. David Hearst and Gordy McKee were tracking his every move though, and National Champion Hearst slipped by in the closing stages to take the win, with Vince Litter netting third in the end. This certainly was Lightning Rods at their best, and credit must go to all the drivers for three exciting and entertaining races with Aaron Stewart, the Emerson’s, the McKee brothers and Gregg Hyndman to name a few in the thick of things all night.

The Junior Productions saw yet another first time final winner, as young Shane McMillan won his first ever silverware in controversial style. Shane was leading as Jonny Armstrong and Ben McCully homed in during the closing stages, and when the three collided on the back straight and McMillan went off a red flag was called and the young yellow top reinstated back to the win. Earlier Jordan Rochford had taken heat one, before Jack Gilpin continued his recent good run with the heat two victory.

McClure Takes 2 Litre Final As World Final Line-Up Decided
On a night of high drama in the 2.0 Hot Rods at Nuttscorner Oval on Saturday night, Wayne McClure took home the winners trophy after a superb showing of wet weather driving in the MBB Quality homes sponsored meeting. Both heats had earlier fallen to Derek Martin as he wrapped up the World Championship qualifying points title, the second of which came after on the road winner McClure was docked for earlier contact during the race.

The night started quite literally with a bang, as on lap one of heat one Philip Beatty became one of the first, if not the first, to roll a Hot Rod of any description at Nuttscorner Oval, as he slid down the home straight on his roof after the frantic activity amongst the star grade became just too close. Philip and his team deserve enormous credit for getting the Nova back out for heat two. In the race for World Final qualification, Davy Clarke and Denver McLean were hard at it for the final spot all night. Clarke edged ahead after heat one, before Denver's second spot in heat two gave him the advantage as Clarke retired. It all boiled down to the final, and for quite a while it looked like it was going to sensationally end up all square, only for Denver to nip past Gary Wilson with 2 to go and nick the spot by 1 point after a whole year of racing. If nothing else, it should add another paragraph to Denver's Best Man speech at Davy's wedding next Friday!!!

The National Hot Rods for once played a supporting role, and Glen Bell romped to both heat wins, the second after just nipping past novice Corrie Beggs in an opportune move within sight of the flag. It was raining come final time, and Stewart Doak, having not figured at all in the heats, adapted to the conditions to record his second final win in a row, with Bell second. In both heats John Christie broke his own lap record, lowering the mark to a superb 13.804 seconds.

Both Lightning Rod heats fell to lone blue-top Andy Cochrane, but his instant upgrading to red provided us with a super final. Davy Hearst, who wrapped up the World Qualifying points title along the way, got himself into the lead, but some brilliant wet weather driving by Gordy McKee brought him onto the leaders tail. They circulated side by side for a number of laps with Hearst just holding on for a fine win.

The Junior Productions saw the heats shared by Jordan Rochford and Jack Gilpin, the second being marred by a massive accident for Daniel Campbell which all but destroyed his Starlet, fortunately without injury to the young driver. In the final, 2010 sensation Kyle Hill was again in control, holding off Derek McMillan and Lee McCracken to take the flag. Sam Smyth was the recipient of the best white/yellow grade driver trophy, kindly put up by meeting sponsors MBB Quality Homes.
