The National Bangers were the big draw for the huge crowd at Tullyroan Oval on Sunday, as over 40 cars contested the Irish Teams Championship. There was action aplenty all around the circuit as the drivers attacked each other on all fronts, but there was no stopping ‘Superteam A’ as they eased to the overall victory during the afternoon. Dublin’s Steven Reynolds was their star turn, taking an incredible hat-trick of wins whilst the others seemed intent of destroying each other. Ably assisted by his English team mates Chris Hide, Liam Hide and Paul Golden, Reynolds’ Superteam 'A’ claimed the overall Irish Teams Championship win with their 'B' team in second and Dublin team Assassins 'A’ in third spot.

In the first heat Stevo McGrath and Irish Champion Keith Carey chased Reynolds home, whilst English stars Chris Hide and Tom Waller filled the podium in heat two. As Reynolds took yet another win in the feature race final, McGrath and Craig Nichol followed him home. The end-of-day Destruction Derby saw Lossy Jnr Liam Hide take the win, whilst Waller received the Entertainer of the Day award and Lee Carr the Best Presented Car prize. It was one of the best National Banger meetings the track has seen, which bodes well for the year ahead.

The 2.0 Hot Rods as usual produced some fast and furious racing, with Aughnacloy’s Adam Best producing a scintillating drive on the wide outside line to land victory in heat one over Lurgan’s Eddie Litter. Former double World Champion Wayne Woolsey was right back on form to take the win in heat two ahead of Mark Madill, before Madill drove a fine race in the final to beat the rest to the chequered flag.
It was an ill-tempered affair as the drivers gave it their all, but Madill held it all together to land the win. After a number of penalties were imposed, Adam Heatrick inherited second place ahead of Litter in third.

Annaghmore driver Mark Taylor kicked off his 2013 Lightning Rods season with a controlled feature race win on Sunday. Having failed to get on the leaderboard during the heats, Taylor made it count when it mattered most by landing the Hoggs Bar, Loughgall sponsored final trophy ahead of Portadown drivers Nigel Jackson and David Hearst.
With the World Championship for the class being staged at Tullyroan in September, a 20+ field of drivers were out to impress. Ardglass man Martin O’Flaherty, in his newly acquired ex-Mervyn Emerson car, drew first blood with victory in the first heat ahead of Francie Allen and Jackson, before Allen improved to take the chequered flag in heat two from Vince Litter and the impressive new car of Loughgall’s Winston Weir.
Come the feature race though, Taylor quickly moved to the head of the field and duly romped to victory as the others battled tooth and nail for second spot.

The ProStocks are another formula with a World title decider being staged at Tullyroan in September, and Portadown’s Irish Champion Stefan McClelland marked himself down as a major contender with a devastating heat and final double from a superb 27-car field. After a huge early pile up on the back straight, McClelland powered through from the rear of the line up to take an action packed opener ahead of Loughgall’s Allen Cherry and Dungannon’s British Champion Ryan Abernethy.
Heat two saw Cherry get the early break from the novice grade, and despite the best efforts of Abernethy and McClelland he held on to take a deserved win. Abernethy fell foul to the Stewards and was demoted for second to fourth for jumping a restart, leaving McClelland to pick up second and Robert McIlroy third.
Cherry looked all set to make it a double success in the final as he built up a commanding lead, but McClelland really had the bit between his teeth and made huge inroads into Allen’s lead as the laps dwindled down. On the last tour Stefan made his move, slipping under the leader to complete his double and kick off such an important year in top form.
Many thanks to our meeting sponsors, Hoggs Bar of Loughgall

The NHRPA, the governing body of National Hot Rods, has released a statement covering a number of changes to the formula for the upcoming season.

Many of these are relevant to Northern Ireland racing, and recognise the current healthy state of the formula in the province. We will have an increase to 6 places on the World Final grid at Ipswich in July, whilst the top 2 finishers in Wash 'n' Dash World Series NI will be guaranteed a front group start in the big race. Also, any driver who has contested a minimum of 4 World Series NI rounds could also join the back of the grid through the Spedeweekend support races thanks to the introduction of the new Wildcard.
